Union doubles size OCSEA/AFSCME Local 11 is currently accepting requests for application packets for the 2009 - 2010 Les Best Scholarship Fund.
The program was created nearly 20 years ago to help union members and their families with education costs. Now, union scholarship dollars can do more for OCSEA families thanks to a recent decision by the Board of Directors to double the total amount awarded from $6,000 to $12,000. Additionally, the number of awards in the Spouse's category also has been doubled. The scholarship application deadline is April 30, 2009. OCSEA´s scholarship fund will provide up to 12 financial awards for the 2009 - 2010 academic year to eligible union members, spouses and their dependent children.
Les Best Scholarship Members’ College applicants are also eligible for a book scholarship, established by OCSEA District 1 in the name of Pat Callanan-Castro who was an avid reader and a lifelong learner.
The award recipients are chosen by the Les Best Scholarship Selection Committee. The committee is an independent group of distinguished educators and labor union representatives. Their decisions are final. Award recipients will be announced in the Summer issue of the Public Employee Quarterly magazine. For any questions about the Les Best or Pat Callanan-Castro Scholarships, send an email or call Brenda Rine at 614-865-4733 or toll free 1-800-969-4702. See Related
