Apply by April 30 OCSEA/AFSCME Local 11 is currently accepting requests for application packets for the 2010 - 2011 Les Best Scholarship Fund. Eligible union members and their spouses and dependent children may apply by April 30, 2010.
The program was created 20 years ago to help union members and their families with education costs for their children. Over the years, the union has expanded the program to include spouses and members. Now, union scholarship dollars can do even more for OCSEA families thanks to a 2009-2010 decision by the Board of Directors to double the total amount awarded from $6,000 to $12,000. Additionally, the number of awards in the Spouse's category was doubled. OCSEA´s scholarship fund provides up to 12 financial awards for each academic year to eligible union members, spouses and their dependent children.
Les Best Scholarship Members’ College applicants are also eligible for a book scholarship, established by OCSEA District 1 in the name of Pat Callanan-Castro who was an avid reader and a lifelong learner.
Selection Process The award recipients are chosen by the Les Best Scholarship Selection Committee. The committee is an independent group of distinguished educators and labor union representatives. Their decisions are final. Award recipients are announced each year in the Summer issue of the Public Employee Quarterly magazine. Questions?
