Members question, offer input to elected convention delegates

Aug. 8, 2007 - In about two weeks, delegates to OCSEA 27th Biennial Convention will elect the union's top officers — President, Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer.

Delegates also will reject or approve resolutions and consider proposals to amend the union's constitution and bylaws.

Resolutions put the union on record as supporting various issues like fighting contracting out, for example. They do not, however, involve amending the OCSEA Constitution or By-Laws.

Union members who are not seated as a convention delegate can still get involved.

  1. Identify your convention delegates. Each chapter is eligible to elect and send at least two delegates and alternates (the exact number depends on chapter size). Your chapter president is automatically seated as a delegate, and he / she can give you the names of the others.
  1. Ask questions about what union business—such as constitutional amendments and resolutions—have been proposed for consideration and find out where your delegates stand.
  1. Give input to your chapter president and elected delegate(s) regarding the election of statewide officers and consideration of proposed resolutions and amendments.
  1. Stay Informed. Subscribe below to OCSEA E-Action system to receive the Daily Reporter, the convention newsletter. During convention, check the union's website for news updates, digital photo albums, and video clips.

    Non-employer emails only

The nomination of officers will take place on Thursday, Aug. 23, while the election is set for the morning of Friday, Aug. 24.

The election results will be announced late Friday.
