Richard Cordray, Treasurer of the State of Ohio

Richard Cordray is the Ohio Treasurer. Elected in 2006, he manages all banking functions for the State of Ohio and an investment portfolio averaging $11 billion, and he is taking the lead to implement personal finance education in Ohio’s high schools.

Richard is experienced in government, having served as Franklin County Treasurer, as a State Representative, and as Ohio’s first State Solicitor.

An attorney by profession, he argued six cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and taught for 15 years at The Ohio State University law school.

An active volunteer, Richard received the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation’s Presidential Award for his work supporting legal services for the poor. In 2000, the Human Rights Campaign recognized him as its Humanitarian of the Year for his efforts to promote tolerance and understanding in our community.

In 2005, he was named the national “County Leader of the Year” by American City & County magazine.
