Cover the Uninsured Week runs
statewide, May 10-16; OCSEA health care policy expert to address community
forum in Columbus
May 5, 2004 -
Did you know that more than one million Ohioans are uninsured?
Our health care system is broken and it affects all of us, even public
employee union members who are covered under their union negotiated contracts.
Cover the Uninsured Week will take place from
May 10-16, 2004 in communities across the country, including
Columbus. It is the nation’s largest coordinated effort to promote
the goal of affordable health coverage for all Americans. Co-chaired by
former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter,
this weeklong series of national and local activities is part of a year-round,
nonpartisan effort. The campaign’s goal is to make it a national
priority to find solutions for the nearly 44 million Americans
who have no health insurance.
COLUMBUS
Marianne Steger, OCSEA Director of Human
Resources and Health Care Policy, will speak Monday, May 10,
at the Community Forum. Steger (right), along with a panel of other health
care policy experts, will take questions and comments during a discussion
about the current health care crisis and possible solutions. The keynote
speaker is Bill Hayes, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Health Policy
Institute of Ohio.
The forum will be held at the Columbus Health Department,
240 Parsons Ave. in Columbus, Ohio. Refreshments and
registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the program starts at 5 p.m. For
