Changes in the mail-in drug program for Ohio
Med participants; Pay balances
May 25, 2004 -
As most union members know, the vendor for the mandatory mail-in drug
program for Ohio Med participants is changing for the new benefit year
beginning July 1, 2004. Effective July 1, Ohio Med Participants
will use Express Scripts Incorporated instead of Medco
Health for their pharmacy benefit manager.
Because Medco doesn’t want to left with
unpaid balances when its contract expires, it reduced
the amount of an unpaid balance a member can owe before future shipments
are refused from $120 to $60. That means, for example, if you
owe Medco more than $60 it will not ship your prescription until you pay
that with a credit card or a check.
On June 1, Medco will not ship
drugs if the person owes $1.00 that means people will have to
pay for their drugs at the time of submitting their prescription with
a check or credit card. For any union member who owes more than $1.00
to Medco, they will not fill or re-fill any prescriptions until the balance
due is paid.
Employees who have critical-need situation
regarding obtaining their prescription drugs this can contact DAS Benefits
at 800/409-1205.
The State has arranged with the new vendor, Express
Scripts, to increase the balance-due amount from $120 to $250 effective
July 1, 2004. This increase is appropriate since drug co-pays
are increasing July 1, 2004 pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement.
