Retirees health care updated delivered
July 3, 2003 - President
Ron Alexander reported at the June 26-27 OCSEA Board of Direcctors meeting
on the status of health care benefits for Ohio Public Employees Retirement
System (OPERS) participants.
OPERS’s health program is in much better financial
shape than other public employee retirement plans and is funded until
2017.
The goal of OPERS trustees is to guarantee funding for
a 20-30 year period, so the Retirement Board is considering some relatively
small changes this year and more aggressive changes next year.
Alexander reported that AFSCME International also responded
favorably to the idea of forming a coalition of public pension plans.
