Union Bargaining Team says "back up claims with facts" during Dec. 20-21 session
Dec. 22, 2005 - Although most of the work during the this week's bargaining session was done in subcommittees, the work was noteworthy because the two sides are close to agreements on at least two articles. Subcommittees were used to facilitate discussion on a number of issues including sick leave, disability leave, occupational injury leave, workers' compensation, FMLA and the State's proposal for a wide-ranging expansion of management's rights. Union Bargaining Team defends personal leave, workforce development during Dec. 13 - 15

- At the start of this three-day bargaining session, negotiators started off with an exchange over Personal Leave. Management has floated a proposal to expand the required advance notice time to 72 hours. Management said one of their main reasons for expanding the notice was staffing, or as management's chief negotiator Gary Johnson repeatedly puts it, they want "butts in seats." FULL STORY

Nov. 30, 2005 - Recalling the words of Abraham Lincoln, OCSEA’s head negotiator Andy Douglas kicked off negotiations for a new contract by reminding his management counterparts that state employees and taxpayers won't remember what two sides say during negotiations but they "will never forget what we do here." Union leaders met to elect bargaining team
July 12, 2005 - The Bargaining Council met July 9 to elect the next Negotiations Team, a group which approves bargaining strategies and develops contract provisions. Several of the newly elected team members have served on past teams and offer valuable experience. FULL STORY

Union files statewide grievance on recent weather emergency; Submit individual grievance forms by Jan. 21
Jan. 4, 2005
(updated Jan. 10, 2005) - A class action grievance has been filed by the union with the Office of Collective Bargaining (OCB) for OCSEA members over the recent weather/snow emergency. The Article 13.15 grievance seeks appropriate compensation for state employees on this matter for the period of Dec. 23 - Dec. 29.   full story
