News Cabinet secretary takes lead on Ohio's new government accountability initiative
July 18, 2007 - More than 200 union and management quality activists gathered today at the OCSEA Union Hall for the Pathways to Excellence event. In addition to union and quality experts, participants heard from Jan Allen, the governor's cabinet secretary. As part of Gov. Ted Strickland's senior staff, Allen is responsible for supporting the day-to-day work of his cabinet, advising the governor, and leading the Accountable Government Plan. She shared with a packed room the governor's Accountable Government Plan and how it impacts frontline workers. View chart (PDF) According to her prepared remarks (PDF), it's anticipated that this results-oriented governance system will institutionalize the way we do business and enable our resource-limited state government to achieve the most for Ohioans. Over the years, Allen has served in senior-appointed positions in government and has been a consultant and advisor to government leaders, CEOs, university presidents and leaders of non-profit organizations. She began her career as a communications and government professional serving ultimately as deputy Chief of Staff for Ohio Governor Richard Celeste, the first woman in Ohio to hold a top position in the Governor's Office. After leaving government Allen worked in the fields of public relations and government relations. In the five years prior to Strickland's election, Allen worked as an executive coach—partnering with individual and group coaching clients to create new businesses, become more resonate leaders, develop new skills, and spark greater creativity. This one-day event was sponsored by the Ohio Quality Network, a group of labor and management quality coordinators who work within their agencies to preserve the quality initiative. See Related
