Labor, management move forward with Agency Review Team training

Nov. 30, 2007 - It's been nearly a year since Gov. Ted Strickland affirmed that his administration would embrace process improvement principles to help turn around Ohio.

Now, quality activists—union members and managers alike—have the opportunity to step forward in support of the new Administration's vision and goals. On Thursday, Nov. 29, three of the four pilot Agency Review Teams participated in training.

The four agencies identified as pilot agencies include: DAS, ODJFS, ODOT and Public Safety.

"It is hoped that by piloting four agencies, problems and barriers can be identified and solved before the process is rolled out to the remaining 23 cabinet agencies," OCSEA Operations Director Bruce Wyngaard said of the pilots.

Steve Wall from DAS conducted a 3 hour training for these new teams to help prepare managers and bargaining unit employees for the suggestions that will becoming through the Governor’s Employee and Stakeholder Suggestion Program.

More than 90 suggestions have been received statewide in the three weeks the website has been on-line.

The three pilot agencies reviewed actual suggestions for their individual agencies.  This exercise, although very exciting, identified how difficult it can be to get your mind around the scope of some of these suggestions.

The union continues to work with its members in state agencies to provide whatever help they need in identifying the labor side of their Agency Review Teams.

Strickland mandated his 23 cabinet agencies to participate in this initiative; Other agencies, boards and commissions, however, will be invited to participate.
