Buzz words in an area of an aging workforce

Next Wave: The generation of younger workers under age 40 now filling the ranks of the labor union movement. In 2008, the number of people ages 18-31 will number 50 million, nearly as many as the baby boom generation, and will be a force to be reckoned with.

Intellectual Capital: The total knowledge, information, experience and intellectual property of the workforce that is used to create value by both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.

Strategic skills: The relatively rare and unique abilities that have likely been key to an organization’s prior successes and are absolutely necessary for the long-term success of an enterprise.

Succession planning: The step-by-step system for insuring that the strategic skills, information capital and leadership abilities are methodically identified and transferred within an enterprise to prevent significant disruptions due to events such as catastrophic emergencies and staff departures caused by events such as retirements and death.
