Cost-savings day for retirees, new hires
July 21, 2009 - The Department of Administrative Services has created two charts to explain how new employees will be treated with regard to cost-savings days (CSDs) and how many retiring employees will have to take. A complete FAQ on CSDs, included in the summer issue of the union's magazine, will be available online soon.

April 16, 2009 - Approved by the membership last month, the 2009 - 2012 Contract between OCSEA and the State of Ohio is effective April 16, 2009 through February 2012. Dispatch runs correction on sick leave;

April 9, 2009 - At OCSEA’s request, the Columbus Dispatch has run a correction to its Tues., April 8 article, "State worker concessions to pay off; Employee contract mostly givebacks, but with 3rd-year bonus," regarding the OCSEA contract. The paper mistakenly indicated that members’ sick leave accruals will be frozen for the next two years of the contract. FULL STORY

OCSEA members vote to accept contract
March 31, 2009 - The Ohio Civil Service Employees Association / AFSCME Local 11 announced today that its union members voted to accept a new three-year contract that will run through February 2012. FULL STORY

March 24, 2009 - The Controlling Board, which provides legislative oversight over certain capital and operating expenditures by state agencies, is the legislative arm that must approve the budget. State revamps flextime policy; Union input makes a difference
Nov. 25, 2008 - For months now, OCSEA has been working with Gov. Ted Strickland’s office to address concerns with the time and attendance policy released in February of this year that took away flextime for many bargaining unit state employees.The revised policy—as recommended by the union—gives more latitude on compressed work weeks and supports the implementation of flexible schedules. Union convinces state to increase mileage rate; Win provides financial relief at pumps
July 1, 2008 - Starting today OCSEA members who use their own vehicles for agency-required travel will get some financial relief from sky-high gasoline prices. State officials last week agreed to OCSEA's strong and persistent request to increase the mileage reimbursement rate to 50.5 cents per mile. FULL STORY

Bargaining Advisory Committee to meet after June board meeting
April 22, 2008 – The union's Bargaining Advisory Committee is set to meet on Saturday, June 21, following the OCSEA Board of Directors meeting. This committee — comprised of board members, district council presidents and assembly presidents — gives input and reviews membership feedback on contract negotiations. FULL STORY
Bargaining surveys mailed to members
April 1, 2008 - Although the current contract between OCSEA and the State of Ohio does not expire until Feb. 28, 2009, the union is asking members to complete a bargaining survey now. Surveys were mailed to members' homes last week. Return your completed survey to OCSEA headquarters by May 1. If you didn't receive one, you may download it now.
