News convention - day 4 Aug. 10, 2006 (5:09 p.m. EST) - Although the morning started with the biennial PEOPLE relay race, most of Thursday's convention was dedicated to participating in a unique electronic "town meeting" to help AFSCME's future.
It was a "you had to be there to understand it" day that used a mix of instantaneous polling, groups discussions, and rapid distilling of ideas to brainstorm and give directions to leaders, especially AFSCME's new leadership institute. The town hall involved more than 3,000 delegates. The event was so engaging that 98 percent stayed for the entire seven hours of meeting. McEntee promised to adhere to the suggestions made in the meeting, and said he now saw his job as helping delegates do their job. Click to view larger image. OCSEA's Women's Action Committee relay team raised more than $8,000 for the PEOPLE political action fund. Traditionally, our WAC team has been a top fund raiser in the event.
