News News impacting public employee union members OCSEA supports Ron Alexander for OPERS board; Election ballots due this month Sept. 6, 2006 - OCSEA believes a vote to re-elect Ron Alexander to the OPERS Board as the state employee representative ensures a strong voice for state employees’ issues, sound fiscal policy for OPERS funds, retention of health care benefits for retirees, and a strong voice for labor. Ballots must be submitted by no later than Fri., Sept. 29. Employees and retirees will have the option of voting by mail or through an interactive voice telephone system. Voting materials were mailed to qualified voters at their home address of record on Aug. 25. If you believe you should have received one, please check with OPERS at 1-800-222-7377. Late votes will not be considered. The votes will be tabulated Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at the OPERS building under the direction of the Secretary of State. As an experienced OPERS leader since 1994, Alexander is pledging his commitment to fiscal responsibility and sound judgment for the future of OPERS. Alexander is also seen as a strong voice for public employees by his peers on the board. They’ve elected him as chair for three one-year terms. Additionally, he offers more than 25 years of experience serving as a design engineer for ODOT. He has also served as a dedicated legislative lobbyist and advocate for the most important issues affecting state employees since the early 1980s. “Every day we read about workers losing their hard-earned pensions. That’s why we must elect an experienced, knowledgeable and trusted member of our community to serve on the OPERS Board of Directors. That’s why I’m voting for Ron Alexander to help guarantee us a secure and comfortable retirement,” said OCSEA Board of Directors member, Jim Larocca. See Related
