News News impacting public employee union members Union members co-host fashion show to benefit the Combined Charitable Campaign Nov. 30, 2006 - Recently OCSEA members from the Department of Health, the Bureau of Workers Compensation, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Commission on African American Males participated in a fashion show to raise contributions for the Combined Charitable Campaign.
This is the fifth year for the event put on by the Department of Health’s joint CCC Committee, which is co-chaired by OCSEA member and DOH employee Jackie Milliken and DOH employee Debra Payne. The event coordinators were DOH employees Payne and Deborah Milo and OCSEA member and DOH employee Alisea Grant. It was standing room only for the event held in the William Green Building auditorium in downtown Columbus. Employees paid an admittance fee of $3 to watch other employees strut their stuff in the latest fashions. All clothing and styling as well as Master of Ceremony services were donated by local businesses. The event raised $375 and it is anticipated that the funds will go to a charity aimed at fighting HIV and AIDS in conjunction with December’s World AIDS Day. Statewide CCC co-chair Kelvin Jones (EPA), one of the event’s models, said it was an honor to participate and that it is his goal as co-chair to be at as many chapter CCC events as he possible can. Jones is a member of the OCSEA Board of Directors. Alisea Grant, one of the event coordinators, said it’s really important to get involved in events like this. “One of the State’s motto is ’Improving the Health of All,’ which goes hand in hand with the goals of the Department and the goal of this event,” said Grant. “Giving and helping like this is enriching and fulfilling for me. And it’s a lot of fun too.” In addition to raising money through voluntary payroll deduction, the DOH CCC Committee holds events to raise money all year long. Some events in the past have included catered lunches, "Name that tune" events, friends and photo days, and tailgate and trivia parties. See Related
