News Request board of directors nomination packet by May 1 EDITOR'S NOTE: (May 2, 2007) - The board seat eligibility requirements chart, which appeared in the Public Employee Quarterly spring 2007 issue, has been updated due to recent developments. Chapter 2595 and other Taxation members are now ELIGIBLE TO RUN if the other requirements are also met. April 27, 2007 - Fourteen seats on OCSEA’s top policy-making body will soon be up for grabs by election, according to information recently released by the union’s Judicial and Internal Affairs Committee. The Board of Directors balloting is an OCSEA constitutional requirement. Elections are held in a three year cycle, with elections for one half of the seats two years in a row and none the following third year. Each OCSEA district is allowed to elect at least two representatives to the Board. The following rules provide for broad representation on the Board, but create limits on who is eligible to run from each district.
Union members who wish to be candidates for the Board must first request a nomination packet by May 1 at 5 p.m. from Tracy Tackett at 800 266-5615, ext. 4719, or ttackett@ocsea.org. Completed nomination packets must contain petitions containing the signatures of at least 100 members or of 10 percent of the union membership within their district (whichever is less). All forms should be turned into Tracy Tackett c/o OCSEA, 390 Worthington Road, Ste. A, Westerville, Ohio, 43082-8331. The petitions must be completed and returned to OCSEA by 5 p.m. on May 15, 2007. Voting will be done through the mail. Per the constitution, ballots will be mailed to the membership on or before June 10. Ballots are to be returned by the end of June and the election count will take place in the beginning of July. The results will be announced as soon as the ballots are counted. In the event a run-off is required for any district, a second round of ballots will be mailed. See Related
