News News impacting public employee union members State's new fundraising policy won't impact Combined Charitable Campaign activities Nov. 15, 2007 - New guidelines prohibiting state employees from doing charity work on the state's dime will have no impact on the union's involvement in the state's Combined Charitable Campaign, Kelvin Jones, CCC Co-Chair and OCSEA Board Director, said of the recently released policy. "The announcement that state employees, for instance, would no longer be able to tutor students on state time under the Ohio Reads program, will in no way take away from employees activities around the CCC," said Jones. "Besides, many of those fundraising activities are done on breaks, during lunch or after hours," Jones added. Many OCSEA bargaining unit employees engage in bake sales and other fundraising activities to raise money for their favorite charities during the months of September and October. All those activities are allowed, under the governor's new policy (PDF). The Strickland policy, released Oct. 12, 2007, says that agency-sanctioned flex-time can be used to engage in giving campaigns and volunteer activity, and that fundraising can still take on state property.
