Event delivers tools for change
Feb. 5, 2008 (UPDATED March 13, 2008) - No matter what’s driving us—forces outside of our self or a strong desire from within—Americans collectively want one thing the most right now. And that’s change.
Undoubtedly, change has been the most repeated theme echoed by all presidential candidates, the news media and voters alike. In fact, working men and women say in poll after poll that they want better for their families than they’ve experienced over the last eight years. We don’t want more of what the Bush Administration delivered: Record job loss, skyrocketing health care costs, surging oil prices, failing pension systems, struggling schools, and weakened worker protections. The Building Union Power 8 conference is designed to mobilize OCSEA activists to secure well-deserved change for our members and all Ohioans. This weekend event is set for April 18-19 at the Hyatt on Capital Square in downtown Columbus. Event speakers, workshops and other special activities will underscore that we can all be change agents and transform the outcome of the upcoming presidential race. Conferees won’t just hear about the importance of electing labor-friendly candidates who support public employees and the services they deliver. Union activists will also walk away with a set of tools to: refine and carry the Labor 2008 message, share it with others through a proven system called Member Action Teams (MATs), and turn up the volume by supporting PEOPLE. The Friday evening reception offers activists from across the state and in various agencies the opportunity to come together to share best practices. During Saturday’s banquet, OCSEA will recognize recipients of the High Performance Initiative Award. Subordinate body applicants were required to demonstrate how they build union power, offer measurable benefits to the membership, and improve subordinate body performance. Register online or call the OCSEA Education Registration Hotline at 800-266-5615, ext. 4772. Call the hotel at 1-800-233-1234 to reserve your room:
Watch for agenda updates, confirmed political speakers and more. For additional event details, contact Angela Harrington at 800-266-5615, ext. 4739. See Related
