Guest speaker says health care messaging to clinch 2008 elections

Get real facts, learn how to share solutions

April 15, 2008 - Many political analysts have speculated that health care will become the election battlefield in 2008. So for public employee union members living in a battleground state, this topic certainly merits OCSEA's attention.

Nick Unger, the Training Director of the AFL-CIO Health Care Campaign, will deliver a special presentation for all Building Union Power 8 conference attendees called “10 Points for Victory - Health Care: Turn Around America.” The training focuses on how the topic of health care can help to “sell” the labor message that will lead to election victory in 2008.

Join OCSEA leaders and activists on Saturday, April 19, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., in the Governor's Ballroom at the Hyatt on Capitol Square in downtown Columbus.

Unger, a veteran trade unionist, labor educator and health care activist, is also a leader of the Universal Health Care Action Network (UHCAN) headquartered in Ohio.

He says that the only way America will ever get health care reform is if it comes with a union label, and that in 2008 we have the opportunity (and the challenge) we’ve been waiting for.

Everyone knows that health care is a clear example of how the country is headed in the wrong direction. It’s a topic that hits everyone, including those who collectively bargain their health care benefit. It costs too much, covers too few people, excludes other and is only getting worse.

Unger’s presentation will demonstrate how we can win that battle with a strong, focused message. When we define the topic and the message, we  win.

Come learn more about how you can get involved with the health care issue and help all working families win at the polls on Nov. 4, 2008.
