News impacting public employee union members

OVH employee Ferguson wins Horizon Award

June 23, 2008 - OCSEA member Patricia Ferguson, who works at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, was awarded OCSEA’s prestigious Horizon Award for outstanding service to her community at the most recent OCSEA Board of Director’s meeting.

Ferguson has been active in her community for more than 20 years with various organizations, including the 4-H club where she taught low-income families how to cook nutritional and economic meals. 

She is also the founder and coordinator of Sandusky’s successful community event called “Fun Day” that honors various community members and helps children to say no to drugs.

The event is organized entirely by volunteers and sponsored by area businesses and families.

This hard-working public employee union member with a big heart is Involved in all aspects of the event including:

  • Recruiting other volunteers
  • Raising funds,
  • Applying for permits,
  • Working the booths and
  • Even cleaning up when the event is over.

Ferguson accepted a plaque honoring her achievement and a check for $500 to the charity of her choice.
