DOWNLOAD AGENDA (pdf)
Sept. 11, 2008 - The annual OCSEA Steward Conference will examine how political factors impact public employees each and every day. All union activists are invited by OCSEA Pres. Eddie Parks to attend this important event.
Seasoned stewards are asked to bring a new, less senior steward to the Oct. 4 event. The conference will run 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the
Hyatt Regency in downtown Columbus.
Several workshops are available at this year’s conference. Pick two:
- OIL and Worker’s Comp. A “chicken or the egg?” discussion!
An open discussion on the relationship between Occupational Injury
Leave and Worker’s Compensation, including a examination of how to
maximize these benefits while navigating the pitfalls of both.
- PEOPLE: Helping stewards make “change that matters”
Learn how your chapter can educate members about the links between
PEOPLE and employment security – without even uttering the words
Republican or Democrat. Help make the link with a fun trivia game.
- Keep It Simple Stewards - Staying on Message for Labor 2008: Besides enforcing the contract, stewards often get invoved in political
activities and campaigns that support the union. Come learn how to
be an effective communicator to convince others to cast their votes for
candidates that support working families.
- Settlement Skills for Step 3 and Mediation: This workshop will focus on factors that influence the ability to settle
grievances and the skills needed for successful settlement outcomes.
- The Steward’s Role in Investigatory Interviews: Learn your role in ensuring proper procedures are followed in the conducting
of Investigatory Interviews that can lead to discipline.
Stewards can register online or by phone at 1-800-266-
5615, ext. 2656, 614-865-2656.
