News News impacting public employee union members Ohio EPA Assembly leaders discuss flex time, political action at September meeting Sept. 19, 2008 - OCSEA's Ohio EPA Assembly met Saturday, Sept. 13 to discuss core planning for the next few months. A big issue being discussed by the agency is flex time. “It’s been in the hopper for about a year now,” said Mark Besel, assembly president. “The director is being asked to reinforce it. There still will be a core window of 30 percent coverage. The reassurance is this should not be an issue with daycare, carpooling, etc.” The assembly was reminded that cooperation is important. “You have to fight for these policies,” said Bruce Wyngaard, operations director. “There’s a way to balance these interests without compromising customer’s expectations.” Union leaders also discussed what is and isn’t appropriate to do at work according to the Hatch Act. Members calling other members for a phone bank is permitted, as well as a letter to those in your chapter, said Wyngaard. “When people are calling people they know, they listen,” he said. Those at the assembly gave feedback on a mailing being sent out to OCSEA members detailing the fundamental differences between the two primary presidential candidates. Ohio EPA members expressed an interest in mailing tailored messages related to their agency work that show the environmental policy differences between the two. Union leaders are encouraging members to follow up on OCSEA's Labor 2008 website for more voter education, GOTV events, and election information. See Related |
