News Your source on political action, voter info & legislation Union fair sees great turn out at new facility
July 14, 2009 - OCSEA held a union fair at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown July 8. Between 40 and 60 workers there stopped by the tables set up by the union before and after shift changes. There, they picked up information about the benefits of membership, materials from the education department, and had an opportunity to speak with someone about grievances. The Ohio Veteran’s Home opened five years ago, and the OCSEA chapter there is relatively young. Chap. 800 Pres. Bob Hodge said he was one of the first bargaining unit employees hired at the facility, so he has seen it grow from the beginning. “It is a wonderful, wonderful place to work,” said Hodge, who does maintenance for the home. “The residents give us a good sense of well-being.” The facility features amenities like a barber and beautician shop, a craft room, a library made up of donated books, several sitting rooms, and more. The facility can hold a capacity of 148 residents. There is a 3,600 ft. walking path around the building, and there is an outdoor picnic shelter being built. See Related |
