News News impacting public employee union members Memorial garden to honor long-time MRDD advocate, union friend
Sept. 10, 2009 - OCSEA members are invited to gather 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, to celebrate the wonderful, caring spirit of Sonya Mawhorter, long-time Executive Director of the Ohio League for the Mentally Retarded. A memorial garden in her name will be dedicated on the grounds of the Mount Vernon Developmental Center at Willow Works, formerly known as DP&S Greenhouse. A reception will follow the ceremony. Sonya was a tireless and dedicated advocate for individuals with disabilities, their parents, guardians and the staff who care for them. She dedicated many hours to protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities as well as the full-continuum of residential and care options, including the state’s 10 Developmental Centers. Sonya passed away in May of 2008, shortly after serving on Ohio’s MRDD Futures Committee. Get Directions See Related
