News News impacting public employee union members Support disaster relief in Haiti now; Jan. 15, 2010 - If you're looking for a way that you, your co-workers and families can help the earthquake victims in Haiti, look no further. The union offers two options:
The Solidarity Center, a non-profit organization founded by the AFL-CIO, is preparing to send a delegation of Haitian union activists living in the Dominican Republic to Port-au-Prince to support unions as they provide basic necessities to their members. "At this moment of urgent need, the Haitian government – and the people of Haiti – have asked for help from the world community," today urged AFSCME President Gerald McEntee. "Those of us who can must heed this call in whatever way possible." AFSCME, in fact, is donating $25,000 in relief funds to the Solidarity Center's Earthquake Relief for Haitian Workers fund. AFSCME and OCSEA leaders are encouraging union members and staff to go to the AFL-CIO Solidarity Center website at: www.solidaritycenter.org and click on the words “donate now." Please type “AFSCME” when asked for your union affiliation. See Related |
