News News impacting public employee union members Activists, staff "get schooled" for upcoming OCSEA Leadership Academy Feb. 3, 2010 - OCSEA member leaders and staff this week are attending a five-day training in Columbus designed to prepare them for upcoming chaper leadership training events. The trainings will begin next month and will continue through the summer across the state. Beginning in early March, chapter elected leaders and activists will be attending the OCSEA Leadership Academy, a two-day curriculum of driven training aimed at educating chapters leaders about everything from how to run an effective meeting and linking politics to members’ jobs to labor history and getting members activated. This week’s training is focusing on developing member and staff trainers who will be working directly with chapters and facilitating the trainings throughout the state. Trainers got schooled on the OCSEA Leadership Academy curriculum and honed in on ways to improve and perfect communication skills and internal organizing methods to keep members interested and activated throughout the two-day trainings. Member trainer Pat Douglas, Chap. 1810, says the training has been quite a positive experience. “This is hard work, learning the curriculum and all the parts and pieces of how the union works, or should work,” said Douglas. “All that hard work will pay off when we begin working with chapter leaders at the actual trainings and when we start to the see the concepts click and get put into action,” said Douglas. “I’m so excited. I can’t wait.” See Related |
