Parks stand with Lee Saunders, who is running for AFSCME Secretary Treasurer. He was recently endorsed by OCSEA. OCSEA Board of Directors endorses Lee Saunders for AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer ShareApril 12, 2010 - The OCSEA Board of Directors voted recently to endorse Lee Saunders, executive assistant to AFSCME Pres. Gerald McEntee, for the position of AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer. OCSEA Pres. Eddie L. Parks wrote Saunders a letter proudly declaring OCSEA’s endorsement and thanking him for his hard work. “OCSEA believes you are the right man at the right time to serve AFSCME members as the next Secretary-Treasurer,” Parks wrote. “Your extensive experience and outstanding performance serving AFSCME uniquely qualifies you for this very important position.” Parks added that OCSEA members know that the political decisions made at the national level influence the services members provide at the state level. He said he felt Saunders possesses a thorough understanding of how the government in Washington, D.C. works and how to get things done. “OCSEA is proud to endorse you… and I look forward to working with you and President McEntee in the future,” Parks concluded. Saunders has been endorsed by 70 AFSCME leaders from Maine to Hawaii, and President McEntee is chairing his election campaign. As McEntee's executive assistant, Saunders manages the union's political and legislative operation. He also has served as the administrator for a number of AFSCME councils and large local unions around the country, particularly when they have been placed under control of the international union. Saunders, a former OCSEA member himself, also represented OCSEA during the union’s first ever contract negotiations. He recently gave the keynote address at OCSEA’s biennial convention in Cincinnati and also accompanied McEntee on a recent visit to the Buckeye State for the Building Union Power Conference. Saunders has worked “directly” with McEntee as his assistant and understands the needs of members all over the country. He also said he has experience working with Congress, something that is “important in this position.” See Related
