News Advisory News impacting public employee union members Sandusky picket to highlight program reductions at Ohio Veterans’ Home June 25, 2007 - An informational picket will take place Tuesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ohio Veterans’ Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., in Sandusky outside the front gates concerning the effects of budget cuts on ex-military members who use the services of the Ohio Veterans’ Home. Employees at the home want to alert the public to substantial cuts in veterans’ programming caused by a $5 million shortfall last year. Center employees also say OVH lacks the funding for 100 positions at the facility, which has triggered high staff turnover rates and mandatory overtime. OVH employees, vets and their families will participate in the informational picket and will be on hand to discuss programming cuts in dietary, nursing services, therapy services, recreational activities and housekeeping. Although, the current administration has proposed an increase in the budget for OVH, downward revenue projections could continue to mean dwindling services for Ohio’s veterans. For more information, contact Sally Meckling, 614-865-2602 or 614-404-3881 (cell). See Related
