ExpressScripts takes over drug program
Aug. 5, 2004
- ExpressScripts officially became the new pharmacy benefit manager for
state of Ohio employees July 1, 2004.
As a results of contract negotiations, Ohio became part
of a multi-state drug purchasing coalition, Rx Issuing
States, which hired ExpressScripts in a money saving move.
The state is expected to save $5 million per
year by the change to the new group. It is anticipated the savings
will slow the growth of health care premiums for state
employees.
While employees drug co-pays increased on July 1, that
increase was negotiated in the last contract and is not a result
of the switch to ExpressScripts.
All prescription refill records were automatically
transferred July 1 to ExpressScripts. If members have had difficulty with
refills, contact the Ohio Department of Administrative Services at 800-409-1205
or ExpressScripts directly at 866-263-9339 or log on to www.express-scripts.com.
