Purpose, goals drive union's IT agenda

The purpose of the OCSEA Information Technology Forum is to identify interests of IT union members and to develop strategies that further these interests.

See Contact Us to veiw the list of Forum members as well s union members seated on the Joint IT Classification Committee.

Our purpose also is to protect the employment security of IT members by:

  • Examine the privatization of IT work – develop strategies to bring it in house.
  • Develop positions and strategies that assure IT employees have the education and training to perform their jobs – cross training.
  • Develop positions and strategies to promote career paths and related job opportunities.

Forum Composition

  • Members hold IT classifications in their agency.
  • Diverse membership with respect to classification (i.e. programmers, technicians) and agency representation.

Proposed Forum Activities

  • Develop a network among IT employees represented by OCSEA (e-mail network, MyOCSEA, linkages with OCSEA subordinate bodies).
  • Act as an information gathering body as it pertains to projects it adopts or sounding board for issues affecting IT employees.
  • Act as a resource regarding legislation that affects IT work (example: HB 482).
  • Explore problems with contracting out IT services including requesting information about problematic contracts, analyzing impact and helping to prepare statement positions about how work can be performed by state employees.
  • Examine education/training needs and pursue strategies that help assure IT employees receive investments that keep them current and help prepare them for future career possibilities and agency IT needs in the future.

Operation and Staff Support

  • Forum meets, as needed depending on the type/scope of work it adopts.
  • Operations Director Bruce Wyngaard is assigned as liaison. OCSEA department staff from Research or IT lend assistance on a project-by-project basis as priorities dictate.
  • Forum activities are reported to the Board Professional Advisory Committee.
