News Your source on IT employment security and good government Joint IT committee to hold focus group; Participants randomly chosen Aug. 8, 2008 - The Joint Information Technology Classification Committee will host a large focus group on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the OCSEA Union Hall. This labor-management committee's goal is to separately review the draft classifications and solicit feedback from randomly selected employees from multiple agencies and classifications. The focus group results will help committee members check their work, make adjustments as necessary, and move the project forward. Core members of a specialized labor-management committee have been meeting diligently to complete work on the job duties for the draft-classifications submitted by the Subject Matter Experts. SMEs were appointed by the joint committee. After the classification design proposal is submitted to Steve Edmonson, Director of the Ohio Office of Information Technology, the group will begin the tasks of looking at compensation, transition (who, where, when), career ladders, education, feedback collection, and evaluation. The committee is aiming to submit its classification descriptions by Sept. 1, 2008. Members who would like details about the IT classification project presented at work, may request Informational “brown bag” lunch meetings. To schedule, ask a chapter leader to contact OCSEA's Sandi Friel at 800-266-5615, ext. 4713, or sfriel@ocsea.org. Earlier this summer, several workplace briefings and brown-bags were held around the state in various agencies. Both bargaining unit and management personnel were invited to these sessions, where committee members explained the classification review process and answered employees' questions. Employees from the following agencies participated: ODNR, ODOT, ODJFS, Ohio EPA, BWC (Cleveland), RSC, and various agencies at the Rhodes Towers and at the SOCC. The questions and answers that surfaced in these sessions helped the committee create the FAQ for the union and state websites. See Related |
