Sept. 16, 2008 (updated Sept. 19, 2008) - DAS Human Resources Division, Office of Classification and Recruitment, Office of Collective Bargaining and Office of Information Technology in conjunction with OCSEA asks that you review these draft IT related classification specifications.

Comments are due by noon on Friday, Sept. 19.

The purpose of this request is to:

1) seek comments, questions and/or concerns from as many interested employees and

2) to assist in validating the products of the IT Classification Project to-date. This is the first approach and opportunity of it’s kind and we hope each of you will take advantage of it.

As you review the specifications please keep in mind the following:

1) Are all the significant IT duties captured as part of the general IT framework for the State of Ohio?

2) Is current terminology familiar to the users/ professionals used?

3) Do distinctions exist between the functionality of each classification (e.g., Infrastructure, Database Administration, etc.)?

4) Do distinctions exist between levels within the classification (e.g., 1, 2, 3 and 4 where applicable) regarding the level of work assigned, problem resolution, prioritization, knowledge required and/or supervision received, etc.?

5) Job duties described in lower-levels within the classifications should be assumed to be able to be performed at higher levels. The drafts should clearly distinguish the job duties that are different and make the next level necessary and/or more complex, etc.

6) The new classifications are intended to be system, platform, software, etc. agnostic in order to provide a more flexible classification system. Such specificity will be outlined in the agency position descriptions.
