Nominate a co-worker for outstanding community service; Secure donation for deserving charity of recipient's choice

News reports say that giving to charities and non-profits is down this year, but you can make a difference and secure a $500 donation from the union in honor of the next OCSEA Horizon Award recipient.

All you have to do to qualify the OCSEA "do-gooder" is submit a completed nomination form by April 1. The award winner will be selected and announced this summer.

This is your chance to shine the light on good deeds of others and secure a little cash for a deserving cause. Find out how to nominate someone now.

ABOUT THE AWARD
In an effort to recognize the numerous contributions to Ohio's communities made by union members, OCSEA's Board of Directors established an annual award program. The Horizon Award honors and publicizes the often-overlooked acts of service, volunteerism, donation, and heroism made by OCSEA members. These fine efforts enrich and raise the quality of our neighborhoods and society.

The Horizon Award recipient will be honored at a special ceremony and presented with a plaque at a 2011 OCSEA Board of Directors meeting. In addition, OCSEA will make a donation of $500 to the charity of the recipient's choice.

OCSEA's Horizon Award is given each year to one member who demonstrates positive service to the community or individuals in the community, or who has performed an act of heroism in the past year.

NOMINATIONS Union members have the opportunity to nominate their co-employees or chapters to be recipients. The Board's Membership and Public Relations Committee serves as the panel of judges.

Nomination Form (PDF) - Deadline is April 1, 2011.

The following criteria will be reviewed by the judges considering nominations:

1. The nominee must be a current OCSEA member.

2. The service work or act of heroism could have been performed at either the local, state, or national levels.

3. The nomination must show how the service or act positively affected individuals or the community as a whole.

4. The service work or act of heroism must have been performed within one year of the application deadline.

5. Letters of support and personal testimony should be submitted describing the nominee's community service or acts of heroism and personal testimony. Personal testimony should describe how the act affected the nominator or the community.

The nominator needs to supply the following information to OCSEA:

• Nominee's name, address, home and work phone.
• Nominator's own name, work and home phone.
• Description of the nominee's community service work or act of heroism.
