Education & Development

Register online for courses, conferences

President Eddie Parks encourages members to register and schedule education classes. OCSEA union training classes and seminars are open to all members.

To register for a course, browse the Calendar of Events, the scheduled trainings listed by city, or click on a course title link below.

CLASSROOM  Basic Steward and Advanced Steward classes are offered soon in several cities around the state. Completion of these classes is necessary for steward certification. Leaders and activists also are encouraged to attend Union Members, Rights and Responsibilities, Promotional Language, or FMLA Basics.

In preparation for proposed layoffs, a three-hour course is offered to outline the paper layoff process and bumping rights and responsibilities of union leaders during the layoff process. REGISTER ONLINE

ONLINE  Available day or night, OCSEA´s E-Learning Center offers a host of online training modules for union members, stewards and leaders. It only takes a few minutes to download the free training software plug in, login to MyOCSEA, and get started. Questions? Just call or email the education department.

The AFSCME Leadership Academy offers union activists various hour-long, online training such as:

  • Advocating for health care reform
  • Local union treasurers' training
  • Effective communications
  • Orientation to AFSCME and Power to Win

JUST-IN-TIME   If you'd like a class for your area and don't see one currently scheduled on the calendar, contact Pat Hammel at phammel@ocsea.org, 800-969-4702, ext. 2654 to find out what types of classes are available or to schedule one for your area on a just-in-time basis. LEARN MORE

CANCELLATIONS If you are not able to attend a training you've pre-registered for, please contact the OCSEA Education Department in advance by phone or email.

The union reserves the right to cancel classes, if the required minimum of 10 member registrations is not reached. When you register online, include a valid email address so that we can notify you in the event of a cancellation.

Please check your email three days before the scheduled training.
