Stewards Training Chapter officers (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer) shall attend the Education Department leadership class in order to be effective. These leadership trainings should be targeted for assembly and district meetings. Leadership is encouraged to work with management to allow union training on state time. (That is the State would be footing the bill for the time.) An orientation packet should be sent out to a new steward once headquarters has been notified by the chapter president of his/her appointment. The packet would include: Board Policies for Stewards, Grievance Guide or similar information for local government entities, Education Department calendar, information on duty of fair representation, glossary of terms and defining stewards status vis a vis management.
