Types of power-building activities
OCSEA members may participate at the local level in a variety of union building activities (see glossary) to amplify our collective voice.
The activities can be grouped into three different types:
Material-to-Member - Outreach
to members face-to-face and over the phone
- Union Bulletin Board Network (UBBN)
- Literature drops
- Letter writing campaigns
- Action card campaigns
Member-to-Member - Outreach
to members face-to-face and over the phone
- Union-ware campaigns (shirts, hats, pins, stickers, bumper stickers,
etc.)
- Cooler talk (share union information with coworkers)
- Brown bags
- Workplace actions and events
- Subordinate body meetings
- Union events (conferences, trainings, regional forums, etc.)
- Phone banks
Member-to-Non-Member - Outreach
to neighbors, legislators, customers, etc.
- Union-ware campaigns (shirts, hats, pins, stickers, bumper stickers,
etc.)
- Rallies and media events Phone banks
- Coalition building activities
- Community outreach activities
- Legislative and political action events
