New HIgh Performance Award Announced; Deadline

May 6, 2005 - OCSEA
Vice President and chair of OCSEA's education committee Eddie Parks introduced
a new award at the April 22-23 Building Union Power 5 conference.
The
High Performance Initiative Award will celebrate the
success of subordinate bodies in the areas of:
- internal organizing
- coalition building
- communications
- administration
- innovation.
Subordinate bodies must show
they build union power, have measurable benefits to the membership
and improve subordinate body performance.
Applications to receive the award should be submitted
by the December 31, 2005, deadline to OCSEA, Education
and Development Department, 390 Worthington Road, Suite A, Westerville,

Types of Awards

INTERNAL
ORGANIZING This award will be presented to subordinate
bodies that have implemented an initiative that will increase or has
increased member participation in union activities or increase the number
of active members. Some examples may include:
- participation in political action events
- showing support for collective bargaining
- converting fair share employees to active members
- implementing new employee orientation.
COALITION BUILDING
Building a coalition with like minded groups
in your community increases our Union Power. This award is presented
to the subordinate bodies that build a relationship with a group(s)
that actively supports union issues in the political arena. Examples
of the subordinate body and the group demonstrating support for a union
issue are required to receive this award.
COMMUNICATIONS Sharing
union messages with rank-and-file members is the key to building Union
Power. This award is presented to subordinate bodies that identify new
ways to communicate with members.
ADMINISTRATION This
award is presented to subordinate bodies that use new technologies,
process or methods to improve the operations of the subordinate body.
The initiative must provide examples of the benefits realized by the
membership.
INNOVATION This
award will recognize the creativity of subordinate bodies to build Union
Power. The initiative must be new and unique and provide examples of
the benefits realized by the membership.
