AFSCME, AFL-CIO coordinate large scale relief efforts Sept. 13, 2005 - Nationwide, unions are mobilizing to aid the hundreds of thousands of Gulf Coast residents devastated by Hurricane Katrina. OCSEA is coordinating a collection. AFSCME RESPONDS – The destruction and dislocation of Katrina and its aftermath have engulfed more than 3,000 AFSCME members in Louisiana, including more than 800 who work in the hardest-hit city of New Orleans.
