Applications accepted for July 16 - 21 Stewards Academy at Ohio University

March 13, 2006 - The 2006 OCSEA Stewards Academy is your opportunity to join in an intensive study of a grievance case—from beginning to end.

Attendees will work in groups to present the grievance to an arbitrator and have a decision based on their arguments. Knowledgeable instructors will assist you in:

• formulating strategy
• researching standards and precedents, and
• preparing the case.

The academy starts Sunday, July 16, at 6 p.m. and ends Friday, July 21, at noon. A letter of support is required from the applicant's chapter or district.

Applications will be accepted until June 9.

Topics will include:

1. Analyzing and preparing evidence
2. Arbitration procedures
3. Arbitration techniques
4. Standards of evidence
5. Standards for interpreting contract language
6. Determining arbitrability
7. Management rights
8. Seniority
9. Discharge and discipline
10. Safety and health
    

Enrollment Criteria:

1. You must be a steward
2. You must have completed basic stewards (parts 1 and 2) and advanced stewards training (or new contract training)
3. Completed application form submitted by June 9, 2006.
4. $100 registration fee submitted by June 9, 2006.
5. Letter of support from chapter or district submitted by June 9, 2006.
