News Union responds to Ohio Supreme Court decision concerning release of state employee data Sept. 8, 2005 – The largest state employee union responded yesterday to a decision by the Ohio Supreme Court that home addresses of state workers are not public records subject to disclosure under ORC 149.43, the Ohio Public Records Act. “The Supreme Court has spoken,” said Andy Douglas, Executive Director of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association. “Our only interest was in protecting our members’ privacy, and that right has now been vindicated.” Douglas continued, “We remain especially concerned about the release of addresses of those members in law enforcement, regulatory enforcement and related activities whose safety - and that of their families - might be placed in jeopardy. “We will continue, on behalf of our 35,000 state employee members, to monitor the situation,” said Douglas. OCSEA represents over 36,000 public employees in Ohio who work in a variety of blue collar, clerical, technical, professional and law enforcement capacities. See Related
