News News impacting public employee union members 1,000 voices shout in favor of health care reform Sept. 3, 2009 - At a health care rally in Columbus on Sept. 1, around 1,000 supporters gathered to hear speakers share their ideas and plans for health care reform which they say will happen this year no matter what. A paltry 20 or so “tea baggers” stood outside the building at the fairgrounds, but were mostly ignored by the high-spirited supporters. Speakers included politicians, a retired teacher, a Lutheran minister, and a Columbus-area nurse. A favorite speaker was Ohio AFL-CIO Pres. Joe Rugola, who gave a very passionate speech about the urgent need for reform, with the inclusion of a public option. Other speakers were Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, and Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy. All made their support very clear to the crowd, which cheered them on enthusiastically. See Related |
