AFSCME Green Support behind Obama

Nov. 2, 2008 - Obama GOTV Rally - COLUMBUS, OHIO - Barack Obama asks Ohioans to join him in securing change at the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008. AFSCME women, including Jen Hall (center), cheer him on and wave signs, "Change We Need." More than 60,000 people came out on Sunday, Nov. 2, for the Statehouse rally. Hall works for AFSCME International's political department.

Union staff and leaders this week spent time talking to members about how politics impact public employees and the services OCSEA members deliver to Ohioans. Members learned how PEOPLE can give public employee union members a voice on Capitol Hill and in the Statehouse. With the support of chapter leaders, three information fairs took place at Montgomery Pre-Release, Dayton Correctional Institution, and ODOT Shelby.

McEntee and Secretary-Treasurer William Lucy joined leaders of OCSEA / AFSCME Local 11 and our sister unions here in Ohio, OAPSE Local 4 and Ohio Council 8, for special reception. Inspired by McEntee’s call “to tell our story about the tremendous value of the services we provide in each and every community across this country,” delegates enthusiastically participated in the first-ever Special Caucuses on Promoting Public Services. July 29, 2008 - General Session at the AFSCME International 38th Convention - OCSEA's delegates considered resolutions and constitutional amendments that impact the governance and decision making of the union and its affiliates. Also, OCSEA delegates offered resolutions on the floor. Earlier in the day, OCSEA leaders participated in public sector caucuses that focused on how best to promote the story of public servants.

May 29 - 30, 2008 - OCSEA Chapter 5188 North Central Correctional Institution hosted a two day union fair, featuring voter registration and a PEOPLE drive. Chap. Pres Tom Ludwig says his leadership team wants to register 100 percent of their members before General Election Day.
