Feb. 11, 2008 - On February 4, 2008, President Bush released his record-setting $3.1 trillion budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2009, which seeks to preserve the Bush budget legacy of red ink and wrong priorities.

Congress passes stimulus plan
Senate Republicans were able to block the addition of unemployment benefit extensions and home heating assistance to the final economic stimulus package.

Feb. 11, 2008 - With strong bipartisan support, both the House and Senate gave final approval to an economic stimulus plan that they hope will jump-start the sagging economy. President Bush is expected to sign it. A more ambitious Democratic-led plan that included an extension of unemployment benefits and low-income home heating assistance was defeated when a procedural motion to limit debate failed 58-41 (60 votes were needed).
