News Attacks continue on Ohio elections reform Aug. 30 , 2005 - There's a powerful new opponent in the fight to fix Ohio's broken political system: the radical religious right. A radical Christian group, the Ohio Restoration Project, has announced a plan to do the bidding of the power-hungry politicians who are against our reforms. The group's leader, the Rev. Russell Johnson, has a plot to mobilize thousands of "Patriot Pastors" to defeat the good-government amendments of Reform Ohio Now. This Rev. Johnson's only goal for this election day—and he sees his efforts as "a battle between the forces of righteousness and the hordes of hell" (USA Today, 8/2/05). This is a serious, well-funded threat. Can you send a quick note to help defend RON against this outrageous attack? http://www.reformohionow.org/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=1144&t=action Our amendments are about restoring trust at a time when our state is racked with corruption. They're about restoring confidence in Ohio elections, which have been tinged with impropriety. And they're about restoring faith in our leaders at a time when 75% of Ohioans think our state is headed in the wrong direction. It's important that we all be able to freely express our religion. But these right-wing idealogues openly admit that they are waging a crusade to turn Ohio (and eventually the country) into a Christian state. Rev. Johnson is in the process of training 2000 "Patriot Pastors," each of whom promises to recruit 300 churchgoers to vote for conservative candidates and issues. And they're throwing all their energy into defeating RON's amendments on November 8. And who was the meeting's guest of honor, holding a bible and rallying the troops for what he calls 'cultural battle'? Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell. The same man in charge of overseeing Ohio's elections. http://www.reformohionow.org/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=1144&t=action Honesty is important to all of us; it doesn't belong to one religion or another. We must stop the corruption to that's tearing apart our state—that's something we can all agree on. Restore trust. Restore confidence. Restore faith. See Related
