Natural resources activists on Earth Day to lobby legislators

Together we can make a difference for Ohio's future.

April 10, 2008 - Union leaders from the OCSEA / Ohio Department of Natural Resources Assembly are inviting all OCSEA members to participate in a Lobby Day sponsored by the Ohio Environmental Council on Tuesday, April 22, at the YWCA and Statehouse in downtown Columbus.

While Ohio's budget problems are in the news nearly every day and discussed at water coolers across the state, ODNR members who care about the valued services their agency delivers, they are asking specifically:

  1. What can I do to prevent further cuts to Ohio State Parks?
  2. How can I act now to ensure that ODNR is fully funded?

Now, you can be a part of the solution! This Earth Day, make your voice heard at the Ohio Statehouse.

> Register Online Environmental Lobby Day

This is your chance to stand up with OCSEA / ODNR Assembly members and tell your state representatives about the issues most important to you. The OEC's lobby day offers a full, productive agenda (PDF):

  • Get updates on some of the most important challenges facing Ohio's air, land, and water.
  • Learn the "do's" and "don'ts" of successful Statehouse advocacy.
  • Over lunch, share your environmental concerns with lawmakers who represent your district.

In the afternoon, lobby day participants will be teamed up with an experienced group leader for meetings with lawmakers responsible for deciding upon critical environmental issues.

Finally, meet back up to debrief and relax. Union members are encouraged to wrap up the day's activities at a reception hosted by OEC at the Hyatt on Capitol Square.
