AT-A-GLANCE

The Blackwell amendment is based on the failing Colorado “Taxpayers Bill Of Rights” (TABOR) model.

Passed in 1992, the TABOR amendment has caused severe setbacks to Colorado’s economic development, education, infrastructure, and healthcare.

The impact of TABOR on Colorado demonstrates the Blackwell Amendment is:

  • A Proven Failure
  • Inflexible & Dishonest
  • Irresponsible Leadership
  • Shortsighted

Ohio would expect much of the same. Blackwell's proposal is the wrong policy, for the wrong state, at the wrong time

Coalition grows, generates opposition to Blackwell Amendment; OCSEA seeks volunteers for speakers bureau

May 4, 2005 - The huge coalition opposing Ken Blackwell's amendment to limit the state's spending packed a statehouse hearing room during a recent news conference. Reporters from every major media outlet covered the event.

The Coalition for Ohio's Future, is putting a full court press on their efforts to stop this potential ballot initiative that would severely scale back state services. More than a hundred organizations with diverse interests have signed on, including social service groups, labor, business, education, health, research and policy groups.

The coalition has developed a speakers bureau of members who will give presentations to groups explaining the impact of Blackwell's amendment on Ohio.

OCSEA is looking for leaders to be trained in talking to groups of OCSEA members and community organizations.

To get materials and talking points, volunteer to be a trained speaker, or to find a speaker for your group, contact Sally Meckling, OCSEA PR Department, at smeckling@ocsea.org or call 614-865-2602 or toll free 800-969-4702, ext. 2602.
