Do you know how to cast your vote using an absent voter ballot? Ohio's early voting law allows anyone to vote by an absent voter ballot without stating a reason why. Prior to the new law, only those with a valid medical excuse or other legitimate reason could vote early or "absentee" in Ohio. LEARN MORE

Mark your calendar for a few important dates, based on the Secretary of State's 2008 Ohio Election Calendar (PDF).

Fall 2008 - Voter Protection Trainings & GOTV

Nov. 1, 2008 - Applications by mail for absent voter ballots must be received by boards of elections by noon (three days before election).

Nov. 3, 2008 - Absent Voter Ballots must be postmarked or received by boards of elections by close of business the day before Election Day.

Nov. 4, 2008 - General Election Day

  • Polls open 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

  • Absentee ballots, other than those of overseas and armed service voters, must be received by boards of elections by 7:30 p.m

  • Voter or voter’s minor child hospitalized because of medical emergency, voter may apply for absentee ballot until 3 p.m.
