Prison farm lawsuit update to stop the sale of farm assets

Posted Jul. 27, 2016 by

The union is anxiously awaiting a decision on their request for a preliminary injunction filed in court against the closure of Ohio prison farms.

Despite the unresolved court case, the state has continued to sell off farm equipment and now has announced a date to sell Angus beef cattle at Mansfield Correctional Institution. Read a news article detailing the upcoming auction of beef cattle HERE.

OCSEA attorneys appeared in court as early as last week as the State’s attorneys insisted on a status conference on the lawsuit. Pending before the court is a motion to dismiss the case on the state’s behalf and the union’s injunction to stop the sale of prison farm assets until the union’s grievance is settled.

A decision on the case is expected any day.
