Steps to keeping free college FREE!

Posted Sep. 5, 2017 by

If you or one of your family members have chosen to pursue your education through OCSEA Free College with Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC), congratulations!  OCSEA members deserve every advantage to get ahead, and as your union partner, we are happy to offer this valuable opportunity to earn your associate degree with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

However, to make sure this benefit costs you and your family members absolutely NOTHING, there are a few things to remember:

To ensure the OCSEA Free College scholarship is applied to the cost of your tuition, fees and e-books at Eastern Gateway, it is vital that all necessary paperwork related to your FAFSA be submitted to the college. The U.S. Department of Education requires some students to supply additional verification paperwork to support their FAFSA, and EGCC cannot apply the Free College scholarship until they receive all required paperwork.

Should you have questions about your FAFSA with regard to EGCC, please contact:

Also, if you are an Eastern Gateway student and eligible to receive funds from OCSEA’s negotiated Union Education Trust (UET) benefit, you must submit your vouchers for all classes you are taking at EGCC and have them properly applied. If you are eligible for UET, are currently attending classes at EGCC and have not applied for your UET vouchers, you should do so immediately. To apply for UET and receive your vouchers, go HERE to download the Career Improvement Program Application.

In order to keep this important benefit free, the proper paperwork must be completed for both the FAFSA and UET (when applicable.)

Again, congratulations on making this important decision to earn your associate degree.  EGCC’s Student Resource Center is available to help you with any questions or concerns you may have along the way.  Their number is 888-590-9009.

The second fall term for Eastern Gateway Community College begins Oct. 16. The first Spring term begins Jan. 16. To fill out an interest form to attend EGCC, go to OCSEAEducation.org.
