ODNR releases layoff rationale; Union leaders help displaced workers
May 16, 2008
- Today, OCSEA Assembly leaders met with Ohio Department of Natural Resources management and were provided a layoff rationale for the agency. The plan calls for a total of 22 positions to be abolished, of which 13 are represented by OCSEA. Union leaders also shared with management details of a review OCSEA prepared that analyzed the management-to-staff ratios in ODNR and revealed a top-heavy management structure. FULL STORY

State budget cuts to impact ODNR
Feb. 4, 2008
- OCSEA has been meeting with agency heads and the governor to request data and discuss the impact of Ohio's budget recalibration efforts on union members, including those who work for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

> STATE BUDGET RESOURCES

The following budget proposal was submitted to Gov. Strickland, per his request:

FY 2008 – 2009
Budget Recalibration Highlights
Department of Natural Resources

Budget Reduction Targets:
FY2008: $ 7.8 million
FY2009: $ 6.9 million
  • DNR will realize cost savings through restructuring measures such as transferring the Scenic Rivers program to the Division of Watercraft resulting in over $500,000 in GRF savings.
  • DNR will realize cost savings through centralizing the fiscal operations of smaller Division offices.
  • Because of the downturn in the economy and projected state revenues, the agency is taking cost reduction measures and is expected to reorganize, restructure or consolidate operations in order to realize cost savings and operate successfully within reduced appropriation levels.

For the Department of Natural Resources, the potential impact of these actions may be a reduction of 85 to 157 positions through attrition, vacancies that will remain unfilled, early retirement incentive plans, abolishments, and other reductions.
