OCSEA leaders endorse Ohio Healthy Families Act on paid sick days

The OCSEA Board of Directors in June 2007 endorsed the Ohio Healthy Families 2008 ballot initiative regarding paid sick leave.

The Healthy Families Act would ensure middle-class workers—the backbone of Ohio's economy—have the opportunity to earn sick days. Up to 7 days a year for full-time workers and 3 days for part-time employees.

If passed, employers with 25 or more workers would be impacted by this proposed law, making Ohio one of the most family-friendly states in the nation.

On a related note, union leaders also made a motion to support the Single-Payer Action Network Ohio  (SPAN Ohio)—a coalition group that advocates for a single payer health insurance.

Jackie (Clark) George, an OCSEA District 5 activist and SPAN Ohio board member, made a presentation about the organization and its goals.

She said that this coalition of individuals and organizations in Ohio is working together to achieve fundamental reform of the health insurance system—first in our state and eventually at the national level—so that every resident is guaranteed full and comprehensive coverage from birth to death.
